Helpful Hints and Other Information

Be aware of what you are printing. There are many ways you can help to save paper (and trees!!)

Before you print, decide whether you need single-sided or duplex printing (duplex saves paper!). The Lab's printers are set to print duplex by default. You can change this to single-sided printing in the print properties dialog box. Under the Printing Shortcuts tab, under the Print on both sides drop down menu, select None.

Use Print Preview whenever possible. How big is the print job? How many pages is it? What type of file is it? Sometimes there are extra pages that you do not need to print. In some cases you can also provide specific page numbers if you do not need the whole file.

PLEASE! Do not use our printers as copy machines! It is wasteful, and causes unnecessary wear and tear. DO you really need it in color?? If you need more than a few copies of something, or more than one copy of a large job, please use a copy machine.

As always please see DGL staff if the orange attention light is blinking or if the printer is out of paper. We're here to help!

Don’t see your print job?

Before hitting that print button again and again, which will only result in x number of wasted print jobs, please follow these steps:

  1. Check the print queue. Double click the printer icon in the system tray (lower right hand corner of your screen). If your job is waiting in the queue you will see it there. If you do not see it there please do not print it again. Sometimes the jobs go so fast you won’t see them in the queue. However, if you recognize that you have sent a print job in error please delete it from the queue. Highlight the job you want to delete, go up to the document drop down menu and click cancel. Or right click and cancel.
  2. Check the printer. Did it already print out? Is it in one of the gray bins beside the printers?
  3. Which printer did you print to? Are you looking at the correct printer?
  4. Is the green light on the printer blinking? If so then there is a print job being sent. Please be patient. Some jobs are bigger than others and take longer to print.
  5. Is the orange attention light on? If it is, DO NOT DO ANYTHING! Please see Kym, Marcie or a Lab Tech for assistance.
Please do not hesitate to ask DGL staff for help! We thank you for your cooperation.

Please Print Responsibly!
