Climate Change and You: Local Actions for a Global Problem

An Educational Experience Linking Health & the Environment
Through Activism, Research & Art

Faculty and students from diverse departments at Salem State College, along with environmentalists and community representatives from HealthLink, have been celebrating Earth Day at SSC since the spring of 2000.  In 2005, Earth Day became Earth Days and we expanded our program to a week-long series of events.

This year, 2007, we will celebrate Earth Days the week of April 9-14. Since the goal of Earth Days is to present members of the College and the local communities it serves with information about the human-caused environmental changes on our local, state, national, and global communities, the chosen theme this year is: "Climate Change and You: Local Actions for a Global Problem".  This theme aims to examine the increasing concern that society has for global warming climate change and its predicted impacts on both natural systems and human systems. We intend to explore the many dimensions of global warming's causes and effects and to look for local actions that can contribute towards solving this global problem. The replacement of fossil fuels with renewable energy sources will be one of the many local actions that we hope will be examined in our undergraduate student poster competition and panel discussion.

The schedule of events for Earth Days 2007 is below:
